14 (who?)

I think the funniest thing

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 23, 2013, 8:42 AM
and I know I was guilty of this last year

when animators start to get even a little bit well known they REALLY let it go to their heads. And like, they typically instantly separate themselves from their "dumb and highly inferior" fanbase.

Oh you know, the people that got them there.
And they instantly get their feathers ruffled at the slightest bit of critique.
like, back in my waybackwhen amvs, there were a couple scenes that resembled Flighty's. I didn't mean to at the time, but factually I did.

What I appreciate, is that flighty didn't call me out on them, but here's the deal. Assuming that she saw the videos, she knew exactly what scenes I took.
While she didn't tell me that I took them, she can pick out work that she did.

SO I think it's kind of silly when I see scenes that I did in other animator's work, and they're too high and mighty to even acknowledge that they might have even barely been inspired by someone else.
Just because I didn't comment on the fact that four different scenes were obviously from a different animator, doesn't stop the fact that it is.

And also. Comparing them and an older animator is usually out of courtesy. omf. I didn't think that could be even taken SOooOO seriously.

Idk. Just I've been seeing this and it's kind of irking me you know. Like, I REALLY am sorry for when I probably acted the exact same way but GOLLY.

Oh god, I think somewhere along the line I copied something (I really hope it didn't end up on deviantart...) But I do try my best to be original, or credit in fanart. I've only animated once, and it was to seconds long and not copied so I think I'm safe, I hope I don't act like na idiot and copy people though D: Especially well known people where it's REALLY obvious...

D : what is it?

I agree. C:
Especially when you see those long, heartfelt comments (or sometimes even gift art) from supporters of a certain "idol" (famous or not) who never get so much as a "thank you." Irks me as well.
Although, some of the more famous people get so many messages each day that it becomes impossible to keep up with. It's not like they think they're better than their supporters; they just don't have the time to sort through every one of them. But you know that xD

To be honest, I've gotten increasingly more nasty towards people who annoy me on here, and I am by no means famous. Fans, especially the younger ones, are brutal, and it really can tire a person out. I can only imagine how you, Flighty, and so many others must feel.

As for the "dumb and highly inferior fanbase" that got me where I am now... sorry but that is exactly how I feel about maybe 50% of my old subscribers on ccizchillin. You should have to take a maturity test at the age of 13 before you're allowed anywhere near the internet. In all honesty, I don't care about how many subscribers or watchers I have. Quality over quantity any day. I do what I love, and I would like to share my creations with people who genuinely appreciate my effort and who care about more than silly things like.. oh I dunno... the color of a collar? x'D

As far as stealing another animator's work... I don't see how that's ever acceptable. You can't let people walk on you like that- at least ask for credit. Dx

I refuse to even attempt to copy the slightest thing from anyone, just because hipster, you know?
I have kind of subconsciously been inspired by many a thing and have picked up certain styles changes like that(aka my new ear style, paws, and similar things), but I try to separate my self from every other animator simply because I'm not a fan of duplicates. I do agree about the inspiration thing. If I ever do something remotely like someone else would, I have this weird thing where I either must change it or am extremely critical of it and have to loudly note that it wasn't my idea at all.
I have absolutely no clue why.

To me, having 20 subscribers meant I was popularish, and I saw how other animators were copying from their inspiration, and decided not to do that, and instead to download and watch well animated videos frame by frame to see how their animations were done. With that, I was able to make my own animation style after studying better animator's work, and now, three years later, I still do that and scoff at copiers(unless it's a meme).

i saw someone who was actually mildly "popular" i think, blatantly use my ashfur design and my style, and when someone went up and confronted them about it they made a Cool Kid Response and denied it when it was. pretty obvious

i can't really help when ppl use my style/designs but? its annoying when they dont at least have the humility to come up and say they copied something when they clearly did

but i dunno on the flip side there have been times where ive been accused of copying people who i genuinely didnt copy or didnt even like their art so i guess it goes both ways, fans are just eager to defend their idols or w/e. really the only people whos styles ive directly worked off of was ~GJKou when i first started drawing and then ~Neikoish when i got into a huge art block a couple years ago XD but i've been accused of ripping off everyone from flighty to niftyapplestar
